According to multiple reports,
Apple is planning to release AirPods with built-in infrared (IR) camera sensors
by 2026, as predicted by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. These cameras, similar to
the Face ID sensors in iPhones, will enable new features and experiences:
- The IR cameras will be able to detect environmental
image changes, potentially allowing for in-air gesture controls to enhance
human-device interaction.
- The camera-equipped AirPods will integrate with the
Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset and future Apple headsets to
enhance the spatial audio experience. For example, when watching a
video with the Vision Pro, turning your head will emphasize the sound from
that direction to improve spatial audio.
- The new AirPods will strengthen Apple's spatial
computing ecosystem by optimizing directional sound based on head
movements when used with the Vision Pro.
- Foxconn is expected to be the supplier for the IR
camera component, with an annual capacity plan of 18-20 million units or
about 10 million pairs of AirPods.
These upcoming AirPods with IR
cameras demonstrate Apple's continued innovation in wearable technology,
focusing on enhancing user experiences through advanced features like gesture
control and spatial audio.
