Meta's AI Assistant Makes a Grand Entrance in India: Unveiling the Power of Llama 3

Meta has launched its Llama-3-powered AI chatbot, Meta AI, to all users in India across WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook. The chatbot, accessible via the search bar in Meta's apps and through the meta.ai website, supports English but currently lacks local language options.

Meta AI functions similarly to other AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, offering features such as recipe suggestions, workout planning, email drafting, text summarization, and image generation based on user prompts. On Instagram, it can recommend Reels based on search queries, while on Facebook, it provides prompts related to post content.

With a user base of 500 million on WhatsApp and millions more across its other platforms, Meta aims to engage a vast audience in India. Users can interact with the chatbot individually or within group chats for various purposes like trip planning or movie recommendations.

While concerns have been raised about biases observed in the generated content, such as the recurring inclusion of turbans in images of Indian men and stereotypical depictions of traditional Indian homes, Meta has stated that it is continually updating its models to address such issues.

This rollout follows Google's recent release of its Gemini app for Android users in India, which supports nine local languages.
